AQUA ALTA - Grazia Island
The name Grazia emerged from the idea of virtue, of becoming a better person. The island Grazia contains architectural ruins into which new buildings are placed in such a way so as not to interfere with the old structures, while utilizing the existing buildings to enhance the experience of peace and calm the new architecture brings to its residents.  Rather than taking on the shape of a square grid, the island of Grazia displays various ways routes and passages that branch out. It has solid pathways that become the routes that guide people in the city. People visit Grazia for peace, solitude, health and well-being.  Although the island remains calm, it is never spiritless. The mix of ruins, nature, and the new design creates an environment where people feel they are on a different world. People walk through ruins full of vegetation having an experience of a temporary reality, the gateway to healing. Grazia utilices the fragility of ruins as a strength and poses its ability to make a meaningful connection with nature. The interconnection of those ruins and plants is what makes the paths be medicinal.

When the years pass, the buildings will layer below and above the water which will be reclaimed by the sea. The island has a particular emotion of a non-sunken and a sunken state. However, the new buildings will float on the sea and the old ruins will sink thus becoming one with the seafloor. The buildings are designed to accommodate flooding. Nonetheless, this functionality does not impede the beauty of the intricate design.
